When is the best time to drink your morning coffee?

Coffee is one of the most popular morning beverages in the world, but you may be drinking it at the wrong time. Studies show that the best time to drink coffee is mid- to late-morning when your cortisol level is lower. 

Cortisol is a hormone that can enhance alertness and focus. It also regulates your metabolism, immune system response, and blood pressure. Drinking coffee too soon after waking decreases its energizing effects, as your stress hormone cortisol is at its peak level">at its peak level at this time. When you first wake up, your cortisol levels are at their peak meaning you have a lot of energy. As time passes your cortisol levels decrease and that would be the perfect time to indulge in a morning brew. This is why studies suggest that you wait a couple of hours prior to when you wake up so the effects of caffeine are most effective. 

Caffeine can also be used instead of pre workout before the gym. Consuming coffee 30–60 minutes before your workout or sporting event can help delay fatigue and increase muscle strength and power. Pre workouts can be harmful and contain many chemical ingredients, so coffee can be a good alternative. 

If coffee is consumed too late it can cause sleeping problems. In addition to sleep problems, caffeine can increase anxiety in some people. If you have anxiety">anxiety, you may find that drinking coffee makes it worse, in which case, you may need to consume less or avoid the beverage completely.

In conclusion, for most people who get up around 6:30 a.m., the ideal time is between 9:30 and 11:30 a.m. Regardless of when you wake up, we suggest waiting a couple of hours until your cortisol levels decrease to indulge in your cup of coffee.
